Appendix A. Glossary

Term Definition
OAuth 2.0 A delegated-authorization standard that lets a third-party application access resources on a user's behalf without requiring the user's password.
Refresh Token A long-lived token used to obtain new access tokens after expiry. If stolen, it enables MFA-bypassing persistent access.
Environment Variable A configuration value injected at application runtime, commonly used to store secrets such as API keys and database credentials.
Supply Chain Attack An attack that first compromises a trusted third-party vendor to indirectly reach the final target, rather than attacking the target directly.
BreachForums A major English-language cybercrime forum widely regarded as the successor to RaidForums, hosting numerous data leak listings.
DLS (Data Leak Site) A dark web site where threat actors publish samples of stolen data to apply public extortion pressure on victims.
Non-sensitive Variable A Vercel environment variable classification that is not encrypted at rest and is therefore readable — the decisive pivot in this incident.
NPM/GitHub Token Personal access tokens for the Node.js package manager (NPM) and GitHub APIs, respectively. If stolen, they enable malicious code distribution.
